What do you do during the class?
You've heard about it, but how much do you know about the traditional art of wayang kulit?
Traditional performing art like Wayang Kulit can be hard to understand especially when it is performed in Kelantanese dialect. Today, the art form is diminishing but its significance as a means of entertainment infused with local culture and traditions back in the days is evermore profound now.
In this sharing session by the Kakiseni Lyla and Yaya you will;
- Know the origin and influences of Wayang Kulit Kelantan in Malaysia
- Learn the elements of Wayang Kulit
- Know the music instruments used by the troupe
- Identify general characteristics of puppets from other countries
- Understand the importance of the art form
This session will be conducted on Zoom.
Optional!
We'll be crafting our very own Pohon Beringin during the session, so if you'd like to join us, here are materials to prepare;
- Scissors
- Sticks to hold the puppet
- Cellophane tape
- Clear plastic paper/glass paper/manila card/sugar paper
- Torchlight/phone flashlight
Proceeds to this experience will go to our outreach programs SeniKidZ, providing creative classes to young people on the art of wayang or modern shadow theatre.

Today, we are dedicated towards building a sustainable arts industry in Malaysia through programmes that enrich artists and develop audience appreciation for the arts. We also advocate for the value of art and culture in Malaysia and champion new ways of bringing artists and organisations together to create enriching and creative experiences for all.
