Grade 1 Music Theory (MYS)

Topics include musical notation, rhythm and time, scales and chords, music harmony, music analysis, and more. All the way through to Grade 5, which will explore more challenging concepts like irregular time signatures, compound intervals, triads, figured bass and some simple harmonic analyses.

The ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) is an examination board and registered charity based in London, England, which provides examinations in music around the world. ABRSM’s Music Theory aims to give students a thorough understanding of the building blocks of music, starting with the basics of rhythm and notes and going on to cover harmony and counterpoint, composition, and broad knowledge of western music, including composers and their works, structure, style and period.
