What do you do during the class?
Shadowgraphy or Shadowplay is an ancient theatrical performance art. The shadows on the screen are produced by lights placed behind the hands or flat puppets.
“Participants will learn the making of the puppets and shaping figures using their hands and performing it.”
This activity is a great place to start for parents and child bonding or family fun time Or just for individuals.
At the moment for basic introduction class you may join 1 time session session of 120 minutes crash course on the signature Friendly monster puppets series. The price is RM50/ per session Excluding materials.
You will only learn the basics of puppet making, learning the mechanism of wayang/ Shadowplay, understanding the light, placements and performing it.
Each participants will be given a how to guideline pdf file to prepare before the class.
Here are the Materials you need to prepare :
- Drawing Paper that’s not too thin or soft, Recycle Papers,
- Cardstock or cardboard from a cereal box
- Cutting matt, scissors & paper cutter
- Pencil & Pen
- Dowels, chopsticks, popsicle sticks, skewers sticks or plastic straws
- Cellophane Tape or masking tape
- Flashlight or a bright light(for performance) Or You can flash the shadow to a blank white wall
Optional for intermediate class-
- Decorative elements, such as Color pencils, crayons, markers, fabric, sequins, yarn, paint, glitter, tissue paper, etc.
- Paper fasteners :brads
- Hole punch
- White/Light-colored sheet: paper or cloth

Our Intermediate class is more interesting because you’ll discover several other techniques of making the puppets.
To complete the intermediate course you will need to select at least 7 classes, each Session will take 120 minutes. The fee is RM50/ per session total of RM350 / 7 sessions 12 hours of class (Promo Price)
The complete intermediate course -full Workshop will be available in November 2021 onwards.

Nik Haslinda Hew (Mekkolupo) is multidisciplinary artist who expresses through films, television, performing arts & visual arts. A professional freelance filmmaker for over 20 years in the Malaysian film & TV industry. When she decided to concentrate on being a video/film editor it proved to be a good move. She have since made a name for herself as a respectable editor and was even named Best Editor at Festival Filem Malaysia in 2008. She have been involved in many signature projects locally and regionally. She occasionally performs on stage and works for Film,TV and also creates her art. She has been lecturing, coaching, teaching and facilitating others in the industry, Institutions and individuals for all age groups, children and adults to sharpen their senses to discover the artist in them and many have found their potential and hidden talents through her classes and workshops.
